Its necessary to be a good driver to get the highest milage out of a set of tyres. Its a very emotive subject as it questions driving style.
- Ensure you check your tyre pressures weekly. For a medium sized van 45 Psi is typical but check what yours are.
- Check your tracking also weekly by using a depth metre. The roads in the UK would cost an estimated 12 Billion to repair and hundreds of potholes are reported every day.

- Overloading your van will cause premature wear.
- Do not mount kerbs. This will knock your tracking out and of course cause tyre wear
- Maintainability good driving habits. Excessive breaking , cornering and acceleration will cause premature tyre wear.
Types of Tyre wear and driver
1. Wear on one side
Caused by the axle and wheels being out of alignment
Mounting kerbs too fast
Hitting potholes too fast
Speed bumps taken not at 90 degrees or too fast
Driving style. Excessive high speed cornering will cause this.
2. Under inflation/ over inflation
Tyres need approx 45 Psi for most vans
Check, its in your handbook. If the van is overloaded or the tyres under inflated they will wear on the outer edges.
Some very high performance vans with a lot of torque will also wear here. Its important to pull off slowly if you have e high performance vehicle.
