- No one ever takes notice of our alloy wheel advice until they have an issue !
Its very inconvenient when a tyre goes wrong and many customers can get very emotional despite the fact they haven't looked at the wheel since the van was delivered often months before - Buy an extra wheel and tyre. For literally a few hundred pounds get a spare wheel just in case you damage the wheel. Its pretty obvious really. That way you can swop over in minutes oppose to a mad panic. Its can take up to three months to get an identical wheel any tyre.
- Consider buying a "winter set" that is 16 inch steel thus immune to most potholes that you cant see in the winter as they are full of water or ice or snow
- Consider buying a spare set of Winter Tyres and winter steels for the worst conditions.
This is law in Europe - Go for 18 not 20 inch
- Register for any extended guarantees
- Coat your wheels in a high temperature wax to prevent corrosion
- Wash the salt off your wheels after you drive at least weekly.
- Learn the location of your locking wheel nut and check the tightness at least monthly using the supplied wheelbase
- Check your tyres weekly for cuts, bulges and signs of uneven wear
- Avoid mounting the kerb !
- Check tyre pressures weekly and buy a TPMS to check tyre pressures from the cab.
All these points were common knowledge 50 years ago but motorists just don't do these things any more as we rely so much on tyre shops and better roads.
